Christmas Afternoon Tea | The Comfy Duck

What better way to spend the weekend, than indulging in a beautifully British Afternoon Tea? Only this is no normal Afternoon Tea as The Comfy Duck have given it a little twist and have created this incredible seasonal Afternoon Tea. The perfect treat to enjoy at this time of year. If this doesn't get you in the festive spirit, I don't know what will!
It was a truly freezing Autumn day. My mum and I excitedly pulled into the long drive to The Comfy Duck at The Oaklands Hall Hotel. We gripped our coats tight in the strong autumn wind and hurried inside the grand hotel, excited for our Afternoon Tea!

The Oaklands Hall Hotel is a stunning hotel, located in Laceby, near Grimsby. The hotel is nestled in five stunning acres of beautiful Lincolnshire parkland between the Lincolnshire Wolds and the River Humber. The gorgeous countryside surroundings are just waiting to be explored.
Already losing light in the early afternoon, the warm glow from the chandeliers beckoned us inside, where we were greeted by high ceilings and a grand lobby.
The Comfy Duck restaurant is located just to the left of the entrance.
The Comfy Duck take great pride in their fresh, local & seasonal ingredients that have a modern twist.
Through the glass doors, we were welcomed by a grand restaurant. We were greeted warmly by the lovely Chris, our host for the afternoon readily expecting our arrival.
He guided us past the grand wooden bar and showed us to our seats.
The restaurant is traditional and charming,  yet modern with very fitting - duck printed wallpaper and gleaming chandeliers.
Chris took our coats and handed us the afternoon tea menus. We made ourselves comfy (pun intended) while appreciating the decorative fresh flowers placed on each table.
We settled on the Christmas Afternoon Tea Menu £14.95 pp, but there are also vegetarian and gluten free option menus to choose from to suit your dietary requirements.
The Christmas Afternoon tea comes served with a choice of 'Winter Fizz' (a flute of Kir Royale Champagne with a helping of Créme de Cassis) or a choice of Stokes Tea or Coffee (the best tea/coffee in Lincolnshire!)
Of course we opted for a glass of 'Winter Fizz', it would be rude not to!
We made our cheers and enjoyed the refreshing winter bubbly.
Glass of bubbly in hand, we took in the beautiful decor of the restaurant and appreciated the impressive grounds surrounding the restaurant. Despite the elegance of the restaurant, it has a lovely relaxed ambiance and the friendly waiting staff make you feel completely at ease.
Shortly after, our impressive Christmas Afternoon tea was served.
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the yummy, Christmassy treats. The Christmas Afternoon Tea has fabulous presentation just waiting to tantalise your taste buds.

The desserts were by far the stars of the show. The tastes and textures were amazing and I thought they incorporated the Christmas flavours beautifully.
Top tier: Mulled Wine Tart with Meringue Kiss, Terry's Chocolate Orange Christmas Tree Pot & Shortbread, Eggnog Panna Cotta with Christmas pudding Crumble, Polar bear shaped Ginger Biscuit and Cranberry and Apricot panettone with Pistachio Cream.
Middle tier: Smoked Salmon, Rocket & Cream Cheese Roulade, Turkey Spinach, Cranberry and Mayonnaise Roulade and Beetroot Macaroon with Carrot and Honey Puree.
Bottom tier: Roast Parsnip Soup with Lincolnshire Poacher Choux Bun and Roast Chestnut Pigs in Blankets.
The Christmas Afternoon Tea is displayed beautifully with great precision and a lovely christmas touch.
Our eyes gleamed with excitement, as we tucked in to all three amazing tiers.
 Let's tuck in!
For starters, we enjoyed a warm creamy Roast Parsnip Soup, which is now, by far my favourite winter warmer soup. It was rich with flavour yet had a lovely and light consistency. The soup set the Afternoon Tea off perfectly and set the standard for what were in store for us.
We enjoyed this alongside the Lincolnshire Poacher Choux Bun. The hot Roast Chestnut Pigs in Blankets were mouth-wateringly good and gave the savoury tier a real Christmas touch.
Next up we tucked into our sandwiches, both tasted beautiful and delicate! The Smoked Salmon, Rocket & Cream Cheese Roulade was delicious, a classic combination of my favourite flavours while the Turkey Spinach, Cranberry and Mayonnaise Roulade was my favourite as I thought it was really yummy and unique idea for Afternoon Tea as it gave a taste of Christmas day.

Next up we tried our Beetroot Macaroons with Carrot and Honey Puree. The macaroons had the perfect consistency and texture, the carrot and honey puree made a delicious and sweet filling.
We thoroughly enjoyed all the savoury items as they had delicious flavours, we loved that nothing felt too heavy, so we had plenty of room to enjoy the rest of the course.
As our glasses of 'Winter fizz' began to empty, we were quickly offered a choice of tea or coffee to enjoy with our desserts.
We ordered a pot of tea for two to compliment our sweet treats.
There was so many interesting pieces to choose from we couldn't decide what to try first!
We opted for Cranberry and Apricot panettone with Pistachio Cream. I was expecting this to be the most heavy out of the desserts but to my surprise it had a light as air consistency and the Pistachio Cream tasted truly delicious.
Next, we tried the Mulled Wine Tart with Meringue Kiss. I loved the tastes and textures of this dessert. The sweet crunchy biscuit contrasted beautifully with the mousse like mulled wine middle and sweet meringue kiss on the top. These disappeared in a flash.
We then indulged in the Terry's Chocolate Orange Christmas Tree Pot. The chocolate mousse texture was again lovely and light and not heavy at all, but rich in delicious chocolatey orange flavour.
We couldn't wait to tuck into the little pots. I loved the Christmas tree shaped shortbreads, the sprinkled icing sugar 'snow' was a nice little touch.

The texture of the soft mousse was perfect and tasted great with the crunch of the shortbread biscuit.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any more festive... We tucked into the Eggnog Pana Cotta with Christmas pudding Crumble. I'd never had eggnog before so I was excited to try one of my favourite desserts, Panna Cotta, incorporated with it. Although a tough choice, this had to be my favourite out of the tasteful and creative desserts as it was truly Christmas in a glass. The smooth, delicate flavour of the eggnog panna cotta contrasted wonderfully with the rich chunks of Christmas pudding.
Lastly, we split the adorable Polar bear shaped ginger biscuit. This biscuit tasted delicious as it wasn't at all overpowering, as some ginger biscuits can be. It had a lovely and delicate flavour and went down a treat with the remainder of our cups of tea. You really can't beat a good biscuit with a cuppa. It was the perfect end to our festive Afternoon Tea.
Now full up on Christmassy goodness my mum and I enjoyed the rest of our tea.
As the afternoon advanced, losing even more light, pink floor lighting gave a soft glow throughout the restaurant, giving a modern and warm ambiance.
My mum and I thoroughly enjoyed our festive themed Afternoon Tea and already began planning our next trip.
The restaurant looks out onto the stunning grounds that surround the hotel. Had I not forgotten my fluffy earmuffs, we would have loved to have braved the cold and enjoy a winter's walk around the grounds. An even better reason for us to return.
Not to fear, if the cold isn't your thing, you can always enjoy the view from the warmth of the restaurant next to the grand fireplace.
The perfect hideaway on a cold winters day.
The Comfy Duck have a grand selection of wines, beers and liquors to choose from, displayed on the grand, traditional bar.
The Comfy Duck offer lots of benefits to V.I.P customers, so be sure to check out what they have to offer!
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to The Comfy Duck Restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff.
After our coats were collected, we made our way out into the cold, after a delightful Christmas Afternoon Tea.

I would like to thank The Comfy Duck for inviting me and allowing me to have this fabulous dining experience. The Christmas Afternoon Tea was everything I could have hoped for. Compliments to the Chef, as clearly a lot of thought and skill had gone into creating the menu. The quality of the food clearly shows the expertise of his work that he learned from previously working in a Michelin star restaurant in North Yorkshire. The flavours and textures of the food was faultless! The restaurant itself was a joy to visit as the friendly staff were so welcoming. The restaurant is open 7 days a week and offers an extensive A la Carte and Bar menu. This has proved to be a memorable trip and would be great treat for anyone to enjoy this time of year. Superb food, friendly staff and a stunning place to visit, I can't wait to try more from this charming first class restaurant in Lincolnshire.
